There are some things I really like about this piece, and some things I just really don't. I wish I'd spent more time on the inking, I was trying something, and it just didn't really work. But I do like the color palette, it's much more muted than what I usually do, but I think the colors work nicely together.
Assignment for a class, charity piece. I chose The Elephant Sanctuary, which takes in old and sick elephants that have been retired from zoos and circuses and gives them a chance to live as natural elephants, with no pressure to perform, plenty of space to roam, and special care as needed. So I was thinking along the lines of 'what do old ladies do when they get together?' Quilts are traditionally made to tell a story, to pass along down generations, like a memory. And if elephants have anything, it is a memory. So I felt that the peaceful activity of quilting would be a perfect thing for these three old Asian gals to be doing.

This is really beautiful - both in visual and concept spectrums. I enjoyed the piece before I read the description, but having read it, it puts a new tone to it that enhances the 'story' of the picture itself. I love the colors in this too.
